Wanna glimpse into the world of specialty coffee? Well, if you been following my speculations as to why green coffee has hit an all time high on the “C” market, you are aware of the volatility of the coffee market.

Of course the real issue isn’t a supply – demand issue….but rather day traders driving the price of all commodities through the roof. Why? Because they can. Sugar, Wheat, Coffee, Chocolate, etc. are directly affected by what happens on Wall Street.

According to Howard Schultz, the former CEO who came out of retirement in 2008 to revive Star Bucks, indicates that this trend cannot last. You can listen to the BBC interview (2:04 minutes) here.

So grab yourself a cuppa, sit back, and take a walk through Bald Guy’s world!

i just ran across an interesting trend developing in Taiwan: Sea salt and coffee! Wu Cheng-hsueh, owner of a growing chain of coffee and tea shops called 85°C (the perfect temp. for brewing coffee) has found that by adding sea salt to a milk beverage (think latte), it prepares the palete for the drink by stimulating the senses.

i think last month, someone told me that they were adding salt to their coffee. personally, i only like salt on my micheladas ( a mexican drink). anyway, here is the link that describes a growing trend both in Taiwan and China! who knows, i might include sea salt as an option at the Bald Guy Brew…one pinch or two?

I’ve just returned from a whirlwind trip to California to meet with some friends about opening up a Bald Guy Brew in S.Korea. Will it work? Maybe. How long before we do it? Who knows…I never thought that we would be going in that direction, therefore, I need to revisit several areas before we can launch. Interestingly enough, I read an article on the plain ride home indicating that Ronald McDonald himself wants a piece of the coffee pie in Korea. Stay tuned!
