WHAT IS THE COFFEE ROASTING INSTITUTE?

The Coffee Roasting Institute is a collaboration between Bald Guy Brew Coffee Roasting Company and The San Franciscan Roaster Company. With over 60 years of combined industry experience, CRI offers individuals an opportunity to enroll in coffee roasting classes designed by roasters, for roasters. We offer coffee roasting classes at North Carolina’s first Specialty Coffee Association Premier Training Center located at Bald Guy Brew Roasting Company in Boone, North Carolina.  Classes are designed to maximize student roasting time on one of our six San Franciscan Roasters. With a one to six instructor to student ratio, the Coffee Roasting Institute offers students an opportunity to develop the necessary skills to successfully operate a coffee roasting business.

WHAT IS OFFERED AT THE COFFEE ROASTING INSTITUTE - BLUE RIDGE CAMPUS?

We believe that coffee roasting should be an interactive experience, not taught through slideshows or lectures. Rather than offering a cookie-cutter approach to roasting, we can tailor courses to meet your educational objectives. Our "build a box" approach allows you to decide which building blocks best meet your needs so that you can roast with confidence.

The SCA Skills Program includes the following specialties in the coffee industry: Introduction to Coffee, Barista Skills, Brewing, Green Coffee, Sensory Skills, Roasting. At the Blue Ridge Campus, choose from courses in roasting, sensory evaluation, and green coffee.

We also offer Black Coffee Business Consulting for those interested in starting their own coffee roasting company. We are here to help accelerate the launch of your business in the specialty coffee industry by avoiding common pitfalls associated with entrepreneurial startups.
